EXCLUSIVE! Hair colourist to the stars Kim Vō shares his secrets to celeb-worthy locks

Kim Vō is one of the most sought after colourists in the world, and has tamed the tresses of A-listers including Kate Hudson, Katherine Heigl, Britney Spears and Pamela Anderson.

And now Kim is expanding his already incredibly impressive resume to include blow dry and root touch up concept salon Vō Blow, just a stone's throw away from his salon at the Montage Beverly Hills.

LAGoss.com chatted to the "hairapist" at the launch of Vō Blow about the new venture, his future projects and how you can get locks worthy of a celebrity.

Kim explained that he wanted to create this salon that caters to busy people on the go because "it's a change of the times".

"Like we’ve got fast fashion - I think we need fast hair," he told us. "I still work in our luxury five star salon. If you want to go in there, it’s magnificent, but this is maintaining magnificence.

"And I think it’s really important for that person who doesn’t need the appointment, has to stay late at work, or a mom with kids. You can have 10 minute colour and a blow dry within an hour. So you’ll be in and out."

The best part about Vō Blow is that it's affordable. The salon offers blow drys from $38 and colour services from $23 for a partial base colour of $46 for a full base colour, with optional additional treatments, styles and glazes.

There's also the option to sign up for a membership which includes two blow drys a month and a glaze for $75, as well as discounts on products, additional blow drys and a free blow dry on your birthday.

Kim says he has "been blessed with so many" fantastic celebrity clients, and working with them has been a "great" experience.

"I still work with them. They’re amazing," he said, explaining that he is now getting a lot of Disney stars coming through his door, who love the "quick, easy, in and out" design of Vō Blow.

"It’s so amazing to see them blossoming and growing into beautiful women," Kim added.

And if you're a fan of a certain celebrity's hair, Kim told us the best way to emulate their look is to work with your stylist to "co-create" something inspired by what you like that will work for you too.

"Be very savvy and co-create," he advised. "Both of you come up with some stuff, and you just have to really work with it, and customise and personalise."

Kim is now seeing a new direction when it comes to the people his clients are inspired by, telling us, "We still have the oldies but goodies like all the Jennifers and all the Kates - Kate Hudson and Katherine Heigl.

"But I really think we’re now going into a different form where bloggers or influencers are really influencing a certain look or feel. So that to me is really exciting."

And he has some ideas about what is going to be the next big thing in hair.

"I think roots are going to still rule, but I think the next trend is baby lights, or very fine lights, to add this natural sun kissed look," Kim explained. "It's really organic - almost like it was only touched by the sun, but really was done by a hairdresser."

As for how to achieve the healthiest hair possible, Kim says the key is "keeping the moisture" and "lots of integrity" in your locks.

"You’ve got to condition, moisturise, absolutely shampoo every third day," he shared. "And I love using sunscreen for your face that I spray on my head, it keeps the colour and the integrity. I think all of those are really important."

When he isn't in the salon or working with his celebrity clientele, Kim has appeared on TV shows such as Shear Genius, and recently filmed for Khloe Kardashian's Revenge Body - which he described as "so much fun. Making people feel great is something that's a bonus."

He also has some exciting new on-screen projects lined up for the near future, but insists his television work is "only for fun".

"I’m a true hairdresser. I call myself a hairapist! I’m a true artist of hair and I love doing television - we’re doing some fun stuff," Kim said. "We’re doing a new thing that’s going to be on TLC this November. They don’t have a name for it yet, but it’s a competition hair show. And it’s really exciting."
